Concord, NC Ranks as One of Nation’s Top “Boomtowns”
The City of Concord, North Carolina is climbing up the ranks in 2021.
Earlier this month, SmartAsset released a new study of “Top Boomtowns in America – 2021 Edition”, which landed Concord in the #14 spot, tied with New Braunfels, Texas. This is up from Concord’s #26 spot in 2019 (there was no study in 2020 due to COVID-19).
SmartAsset identified the top boomtowns in America based off the most recently available data for 500 of the largest cities across the following seven metrics: population change, unemployment rate, change in unemployment rate, GDP growth rate, business growth, housing growth and change in household income.
In the 2021 study, Concord saw a 12.60% change in population over the last 5 years and a 13.33% change in the number of business establishments. Its 5-year housing growth rate is 16.72% and August 2021 unemployment rate was 4.0%. Concord received the highest ranking in North Carolina.
Concord’s ranking by SmartAsset follows news of the city breaking into North Carolina’s Top 10 most populous cities for the first time following the release of the U.S. census data. The city was also recognized as one of the safest cities in North Carolina by SafeWise in October 2021.
